Yolanda’s Banana Bread
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp Crisco
3 ripe mashed banana
2 Tbsp sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)
1 egg
2 cups flour
Directions:
1. Cream sugar and Crisco until fluffy. Add bananas one at a time and cream well after each addition.
2. Add sour cream, egg and mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
3. Grease and flour loaf pan and pour dough in.
4. Preheat over to 350 degrees. Bake for 1 hour or until tester comes out clean.

Gale’s Baklava
1 box Phyllo pastry
1/2 lb butter (1 lb if whole box of Phyllo is used)
Chopped walnuts (approximately 8 cups)
Directions:
Using a pastry brush, coat bottom of a 13” x 9” pan with butter and then lay 3 sheets of phyllo pastry on butter.
Paint the Phyllo with butter until it is completely covered – Sprinkle with walnuts.
Repeat layers as the first layers, with 3 sheets of Phyllo pastry, butter and walnuts.
On top layers, paint on the butter, but do not put walnuts on top. Carefully cut the Baklava into squares before it is baked.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1//2 hour or until Baklava is golden brown.
Syrup
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
2 drops lemon juice
Directions:
Put sugar and water into saucepan and bring to a boil.
Let syrup boil for 10 minutes.
Add 2 drops of lemon juice.
Pour syrup over Baklava and let it cool at room temperature. Enjoy.
